Earlier this week George and I took a trip to Herne Bay where we popped into The Vintage Empire tearoom for a bite to eat and a drink. The tearoom was British 1940’s themed which was such a nice and different touch to afternoon tea.
The decorations inside made me feel like I was back at my Nan and Grandad’s house as they had a similar theme in their house, it took me back to being a kid for half an hour! They had so many vintage old fashioned bits and bobs decorating the room, along with a lot of wartime memorabilia. Even the staff were dressed as if they had stepped out of a time machine!
The menu’s for drinks and food were designed to be like ration books from the war which was so different than just a normal plain boring menu.
I ordered a homemade scone with butter and jam, along with a pot of tea that came with a cute little striped tea cosy and an old fashioned tea strainer!
George opted for ‘The Vera Lynn’ which was a homemade scone with jam and cream, a slice of Victoria Sponge, a sandwich of choice and a coffee. The food was delicious and was all homemade which really added onto the English touch.
I’d highly recommend visiting The Vintage Empire if you’re down for being transported back to the 1940’s or if you want some real fresh homemade afternoon tea.
